Last Saturday evening's Cro Idol song competition (which was well organized by the Mladez HDZ) in Melbourne was a great example of a fun-filled event that the whole community can embrace. A packed house at the Croatian House (Hrvatski Dom) in Footscray was treated to a fabulous evening of food, drink, music and culture, which is what this event should be all about.
In response to last week's article from one of the 'Concerned Members of the Community' regarding HASK's last minute departure from MCSC (New Gen, June 8 2007, page 2), I would like to say I feel compelled to respond simply because of some of the inaccuracies mentioned in the article.
Dear Editor, as a supporter of your great newspaper, I have recently noticed the 'Croatian Herald' (read Vjesnik) having taken a much greater role - be it by choice or natural progression - in community affairs. Also, more importantly, the youth in the community. I know that the community as a whole is greatly thankful for this.
Over the last couple of years, and wandering in and out of various Croatian clubs in Sydney and Canberra, I have seen a significant decline in attendance and the increasing ageing demographic at Croatian Clubs and institutions.
Having just commenced a new job I decided it was time to reclaim the 'j.' Having thrown the 'j' in Marija into the 'too hard pile' upon entering high school, becoming a 'Maria,' I have since had a change of heart.
